Did you know?

OB's consider blood loss of 500cc to be a hemorrhage? Did you know that when you give blood, the American Red Cross take 500cc's of blood? Interesting . . .

Actually, 500 cc is considered normal for most vaginal births these days. And you have to remember that women have increased blood volume during pregnancy, so losing 500 cc is not as significant. Not to mention that blood loss is notoriously underestimated. I think most providers treat for PPH based on whether or not they can get the bleeding to stop, regardless of volume, kwim?

Don't forget, people who give a pint of blood get to rest with juice and cookies before getting up and leaving. So losing 500 cc can cause symptoms even in the general population. :o)
