My comment to Dr. Phil

He's looking for mother's who regret their homebirths.

I had a homebirth with my last child, my only regret is having my first three at the hospital! I should have had them all at home! Since when is having a baby at a hospital " tradition"? For millions of years woman gave birth to their children at home because there were no hospitals or the hospitals were and still are for SICK people! Sure some woman that are high risk should give birth in a hospital. But healthy woman who choose to have home births should be able to do so without being looked down upon! Many say home birthing is dangerous and mother and/or child could die. That is true for any birth in a hospital or at home. Chances of getting an infection leading to death is more common in the "sterile" environment of a hospital. Home birthers typically don't just jump on the home birth band wagon until they are educated enough to understand all the possibilities and many of them accept that things could go wrong and that a transfer could be necessary. The home birthers that regret their home birth are usually those that jumped into the decision or had high expectations and didn't take into consideration the possibility of transfer. Plain and simple, births can go wrong no matter where you are having it. Unfortunately the focus is on the home birthers while the hospitals, American hospitals, have the highest infant/mother mortality rate in the world. So instead of "picking" on home birth, lets try to fix that problem!

Homebirthers are usually the ones that are the most educated about births.

Dr. Phil pisses me off.

Everyone acted like I was either being selfish for having a HB or that I was crazy. Yet, my Great Grandmother had all 12 of her children at home!
